RED DEER, AB - Hypor
genetics had great success at the 4th annual Olymel Performance
Awards held at the Alberta Pork Congress Banquet & Trade Show March
15th in Red Deer Alberta. Partners in Pork’s Janhol Farms Ltd.
took first place in the 60/69 Lean category with Hypor genetics on both
the dam and sire line. Both runner ups in the category also carried Hypor
genes. Fully half of the eighteen winners and runner ups in the six
categories were from farms that use Hypor genetics.
Now in its fourth year, the Olymel Performance Awards highlight the top
producers in six categories: Core Weight, High Index, High Health, Core
Lean, Food Safety, and Grand Champion. Contenders must ship a minimum of
2500 hogs in the qualifying year to the Olymel plant in Red Deer. Olymel
awards points in each category for every load producers ship. The producer
who scores the highest in all of the categories based on the weighted
point system is named Grand Champion, and awarded $1000.
