New Hubbard Feeds product reduces farrowing stress by decreasing farrowing time

TransRite Sow TopDress demonstrates significant benefits in farrowing studies

Mankato, Minn., — Hubbard Feeds has introduced a sow nutrition pack designed to reduce farrowing stress by decreasing farrowing time. TransRite Sow Top Dress, intended for use at least five days and no more than seven days before farrowing, is the newest introduction in Hubbard’s product line designed to help producers improve profitability and reduce risk.

Hubbard researchers observed significant benefits when TransRite Sow TopDress was introduced into the sows’ rations in the week before farrowing. “This nutrition pack provides a unique combination of nutrients,” says Dr. Stewart Galloway, Hubbard Swine Nutritionist. “During a four week field study, we saw the results of feeding TransRite Sow TopDress as directed. There was a significant reduction in the need for assistance during farrowing plus the sows ate better immediately after farrowing. These problems returned when the team stopped feeding this product.”

A second field test yielded similar results. When feeding TransRite Sow TopDress, producers saw the number of sows needing farrowing assistance drop from twenty per week to four. In addition, sows staying at full feed longer, resulting in increased sow lactation feed intake. Pigs were more aggressive at processing, with more viable pigs by day seven and heavier weaning weights.

TransRite Sow TopDress is fed at the rate of 1.0 pound in place of 1.0 pound of current daily ration for five days and no more than seven days before parturition. The product should be thoroughly mixed into each feeding for optimum consumption, and always accompanied by fresh clean water.

Hubbard Feeds offers more than 500 swine nutrition products including feeds, concentrates, base-mixes and pre-mixes through a national dealer network. The company is headquartered in Mankato, Minn., and currently operates 22 plants in thirteen states.
