Hubbard Feeds introduces a specialized feed for vulnerable pigs before and after weaning
Jumpstart® provides nutrition support for young pigs experiencing starve-out or reduced performance
Mankato, Minn., —Hubbard Feeds has introduced Jumpstart®, a specialized feed to provide extra nutrition to at-risk or light-weight pigs, in both the nursery and the farrowing barn. Jumpstart produced positive results in test markets for Hubbard’s customers and researchers when fed for the recommended five to seven days to pigs experiencing starve out or falling behind in weight gain,
“Jumpstart is targeting those pigs that are significantly challenged because they’re getting limited nutrition,” stated Mark Johnson, general manager of the swine division for Hubbard Feeds. “Balancing highly digestible carbohydrate sources with gut-enhancing products and a quality milk replacer, immature and stressed pigs receive the special start they need to not only survive but to thrive.”
Jumpstart is a complete feed containing a wide variety of ingredients designed to promote good gut health and even weight gain, all in a liquid gruel that young pigs find highly palatable and easily digestible. OptiLac® milk replacer and spray dried whey provide high quality lactose sources. Essential amino acids are provided by a balance of spray dried animal plasma, soy protein concentrate and cheese meal, which also promote lean muscle growth. Energy sources are provided by steam rolled oats in combination with high quality carbohydrate ingredients.
Jumpstart is a powder that is easily mixed with an equal amount of water to make a liquid gruel. Jumpstart should be fed daily for five to seven days, in combination with a dry starter feed such as Hubbard’s Lean Start or Fundamentals, until the pigs have fully transitioned to the nursery program feed. Fresh, clean water should always be offered in addition to Jumpstart.
“We’re excited to add Jumpstart to our swine feeds,” says Lori Stevermer, Hubbard’s swine products manager, “Whether in the farrowing barn or the nursery, wherever our customers are dealing with fading or light-weight pigs, this specialized feed helps these challenged pigs see an even weight gain while easily transitioning to a dry feed nursery program. That increases profitability for our producers.”
Hubbard Feeds offers more than 500 swine nutrition products including feeds, concentrates, base-mixes and pre-mixes through a national dealer network. The company is headquartered in Mankato, Minn., and currently operates 22 plants in thirteen states.
